teenage rock art artist & more


While my 9-year old was watching America’s Greatest Talent, he could not get over a dance contestant his same age.  Same goes for the tween something Olympic high-jump diver from China.  Well, you gotta start them young and train, train, train.  So to decorate and sell stones out of your home-based rock room when you’re in early adolescence, well that’s some entrepreneurial skill, no?

Selling his art is nothing new for Alex Matthew, who is entering the eighth grade.  He  explained that he used to take requests from other students and sell his drawings to them.  Alex has created a Facebook page called North Fork Rock Art by Alex Matthew. The creations sell for about $5 each and can be found at Reeve Farm in Riverhead, NY.

Now do not pish posh the power of the painted rock.  Alisa Burke demonstrates that her gratitude stones can be big business, especially if you’re specializing in quotes, mandala paintings, or naturalist leanings for gardens, porches, fence gates, and door stoppers.  The ideas are endless, the time investment is small, and the outcomes are solid.
