19 1133 Grant AveNovato, CA 94945 (415) 596-5546 Both my sons take classes at Studio 4 Art, four classes between them. They love their classes and the teachers. My five year old says he like the classes: "999988889999999999999 percent" and I'm certain that is a huge compliment. I love the downtown location, and the proximity to Mathnasium, another place we frequent. Parking is not bad, I never have an issue since the back lots usually have space.
The owner is very easy going and she made registering my children simple, despite the use of Summit Funds, which can often complicate such a thing. We are very happy to be customers of Studio 4 Art after years of curiosity. I've been wanting to come in for the last 3 weeks but just haven found any convenient days because they always happen to be closed on the days that work best. Anyway, I was finally able to make it in today and I was turned away on the spot because apparently drop in hours are only for a pathetically small amount of time.
The effing store is only open for around 5 hours a day 3 days a week!! How can you get anything done during the two hour drop-in times. I had been waiting long enough to finally come here only to leave disappointed with my family. Don't waste your precious time here. Art abloom is another place I've been to that I highly recommend. I mean at least they have decent hours. What a great opportunity this place provides for families! They've got a large array of classes designed to suit all levels and mediums.
They also have camps, seasonal workshops, drop in opportunities and of course lots of classes. They also have a space in which to do birthday parties. My daughter has taken a few different classes there and also been to parties. The kids can really sink their teeth into the art without fear of getting things dirty. It's a real working art studio! Highly recommend!!! I really love Studio 4 Art - there's such a wide variety of classes and I appreciate the span of age ranges they accommodate as well.
I am signed up for emails and there are always workshops and classes happening over school breaks which are a nice option to have available! We had my three year-old's birthday party at the Mill Valley location last weekend. I can't recommend Studio 4 Art enough. We've done self-inflicted-complex birthday parties for my six year-old for the past four years. We didn't know it could be so easy. We walked in and the leader had the art table all prepared with 'Happy Birthday' and my daughter's name already written on it.
Once all the kids got there, he got out clay and in a very organized fashion, taught the children how to shape it. Meanwhile, we were in the other room getting the snacks and cake ready. As I dipped in and out, I heard the leader talking to the children in a sweet, calm voice. They were rapt. At one point, there was even paint. None of the work even slightly resembled Rodin's, but who cares? We'll pick it up in a week or so after it gets kiln-fired and it will take an honored-place on the mantelpiece.
Easy-peasy and fun birthday. For a long time I didn't try this place out because of the cost, then I persuaded someone to pay for some art classes for my son's 4th birthday and we've never looked back. Now I believe this place is worth every dollar and in fact, I want to give them as much money as possible. We really love this place and my son is always looking forward to going to his next class! Jensen is the best teacher ever - he's so patient and kind and my son absolutely loves him.
Thank you Jensen for being an absolutely amazing human being! My 5 yr old daughter had a great time working on the pottery wheel. She got a lot of personal attention and we're very excited to go back. Lots more to create! This is a favorite for our whole family. We've been in for camps, drop-in, birthday parties, fundraiser events, adult drop-in evenings....I think pretty much everything we can! The kids always have a great time, learn something new, and are proud of their resulting projects.
I love the balance the staff seem to strike between 'teaching/guiding' and just letting the kids do their own process and discovery. Where else can you take your 3 year old to throw clay on a pottery wheel? They are so nice and patient. My son also went to pottery summer camp and loved it! I thought he might be too young but they helped him and he enjoyed all the older campers. I am so impressed with all the things he made.
We will definitely do it again next summer. I've been taking my now 6-year-old daughter to Studio 4 Art for several years, and have always really appreciated the helpful staff. They're all really knowledgeable, and very good with the kiddos. Now that she's older, I LOVE that I can drop her off in the studio! We have one of their punch cards, and it's one of my daughter's favorite things to do. It's so cool that even the little ones can use the pottery wheel and create their own pottery! The staff is wonderful and I'm so proud to have this gem of a place in our very own downtown.
We went to the Novato location, and our 5yo child painted 3 pottery pieces. The woman working there said she would label the pieces before they were fired (by writing on the bottom). We went to pick them up 3 weeks later, and none of the pieces had been labeled (hard to remember which was ours) and one piece was not even fired yet so we couldn't pick it up. I highly recommend Art Abloom in San Anselmo.
I signed my two year old up for the Mill Valley clay play class, but the teacher didn't show up. I've tried multiple times to get in touch with the manager to find out if the class is still taking place, but he hasn't responded. Sad because my daughter would've really loved this! This is such a gem for kids where they can get involved with and introduced to all kinds of arts, like painting, pottery, sewing, and more.
They have art camps throughout the summer, but you can just drop in and pay by the hour, which however gets pretty expensive. Wow!! Why didn't I discover this place sooner? It is GREAT for kids!! Not too many places offer camps during August, or drop in/drop off activities five days per week for kids. Studio 4 art offers both. We signed our daughter up for one of the weekly camps and she loved every day of it! It was "clay week", so every day they've been doing activities with clay - the wheel, braiding clay into basket forms, and making all kinds of things.
The studio will fire them in the kiln and you can then take them home the next week. Outside of the camps during school breaks, you can do the drop in/drop off option and the kids can pick the activity they'd like to do. It's about the same cost as paying a sitter/nanny, so it seems a great option for a few hours when needed between 10a.m. and 5:30 p,m, M - F. Apparently they also do kids birthday parties on the weekends and some Fridays.
What a great, artistic option for kids! Great kids program we participated in during breaks from school, with wonderful attention and interaction given to the kids. Staff shows great respect in how they communicate with parents and kids alike. Informative actual instruction is given regarding art - it's not just a free-for-all...yet it is gentle guidance and allows independence and room for individuality and creativity for each child to explore their artistry.
Painting, mosaics, drawing, ceramics, sewing...are just a few of the things our child was able to explore in just one week. And even better? - they have Adult Studio Time available, so Mom and Dad get to play, too!!! Grab your friends and and go play like your a kid again!! This place is so cool! It is an open art studio for the regular person. They have everything from painting, clay, pottery wheels, mosaic, drawing, sewing and I kinda get the feeling that if they don't have it, but you want it, they will get it! My girlfriend and I just went in and painted for a couple of hours.
It was so fun and relaxing. It cost 18 dollars for the 1st hour which includes your supplies, then 10 dollars each hour after. My friends painting came out so good, I made her get a frame that day! They have a lot of classes for kids too. I don't have kids, but if you do, it sounds like it could get you an hour off to have a cup of coffee or something. Check out the website. There is so much offered, I can't possibly cover it all! I know they also do private parties.
I think I'm going to get some girlfriends together and do a mosaic party. Bring some wine and create art! My son had a GREAT time!!! He made some beautiful pieces of art! (i should mention that he doesn't normally sit down and do art work, but he loved the studio!) The staff was amazing, friendly and supportive of my child's desires and creativity. We will definitely be going back! Best place ever for kids! My 4 year old daughter went to a birthday party and had the time of her life! The staff was friendly and amazing with her.
She later went back for drop in and made the cutest little bowl on the pottery wheel. Amazing! Kebby, the owner, is warm, welcoming and creates a very nurturing and safe environment. Comfortable for any level artist! I had a fourth birthday party for my son here and it was awesome. I was relaxed!! The kids were really pleased too. Great keepsakes as party favors. Next girls night out will start here too.
