WARREN CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL WINTER GUARD TO PERFORM IN JAPANLook at this event page for details on the WCWG Japan Send-Off Performance on Saturday, January 20The Warren Central High School Winter Guard will travel to Japan for a competition on January 28, 2018. As United States Ambassadors for WGI Sport of the Arts, the world’s leader in producing indoor marching arts events for color guards, percussion ensembles, and winds groups, 25 Warren Central students will compete in this international event.
The WGI Japan Regional will be held on January 28 at the Makuhari Messe Event Hall in Chiba, Japan. Chiba is one of the surrounding cities of Tokyo. Warren Central High School, from Indianapolis, Indiana, will be the first U.S. group to attend a WGI Asia event. A perennial Scholastic World Class Championship finalist since 2008 and silver medalist in Scholastic Open Class in 2007, Warren Central is one of the most-traveled color guards throughout the United States attending regional contests in Florida, Nevada, and New Jersey the past five years.
The Warren Central Winter Guard also participates in the Tri-State Marching Arts circuit. The color guard is an 8-time Tri-State Champion and 5-time Indiana State Champion. Warren Central students and staff will participate in a WGI judge’s clinic and compete in the WGI Japan Regional that features 50 color guards from Asia. The color guard will have the opportunity to sightsee and aspires to visit Tokyo Disneyland.
Director Jeff Wroblewski said, “We are proud to represent the United States at the first WGI competition to be held in Japan. Our students are thrilled of traveling the 6,500 miles to make new connections with like-minded color guard performers.” The Warren Central Winter Guard will host a Japan send-off performance on Saturday, January 20 at Warren Central High School. Warren Central is an educational institution that can trace its beginnings in Indianapolis back more than a century. The high school was built in 1924 to consolidate the overcrowded Shadeland and Cumberland Junior-Senior High Schools. In 1983 the township built the Warren Performing Arts Center, adding over 116,000 square feet of creative, technical and rehearsal space. Along with the Walker Career Center, Warren Central High school boasts over one million square feet and serves approximately 3,600 students under one roof.
Since 1983-1984, Warren Central High School has been officially recognized as a "National School of Excellence" and an Indiana Blue Ribbon School. Individual students consistently win awards in academic and performance competitions; championship-caliber music programs and athletic teams have been the rule, not the exception. In 1999 Warren Central was honored as a Grammy Signature School and the music program earned Grammy Signature Schools Semi-Finalist recognition from 2006-2014.
Music ensembles have 27 appearances at the Indiana State School Music Association (ISSMA) Organizational State Finals since the 1980s.The Metropolitan School District of Warren Township is an urban school district located on the east side of Indianapolis. The school system serves approximately 11,500 students from kindergarten through twelfth grade. Within the district there are nine elementary schools, three intermediate academies, three middle schools, one high school and an alternative school.
