During the summer, the school offers art camps for 5–12 year-old children and intensive study opportunities for teens. Throughout the year, DAC School also offers special courses for teens and children and has a wide array of toddler and preschool classes. DAC also offers special classes in our partnership with Triangle Youth Ballet, as well as through our Individual Music Lesson Program. DAC School provides opportunities for students outside the classroom through open studio use and in clay, digital arts and photography.
As an integral part of their education, students have regular opportunities to perform and exhibit their work. DAC School faculty members are practicing artists who bring professionalism and expertise to their teaching. Most DAC School classes take place in the in the Durham Arts Council Building in our professionally equipped studios. Some courses take place in offsite studio spaces. Durham Arts Council has provided a high quality clay program for over 20 years.
At its inception, the program was located in the historic DAC building located at 120 Morris Street. As the program grew, DAC relocated the studio to Liberty Warehouse at 546 Foster Street in 1999. Liberty Warehouse was owned by Walker Stone, a generous supporter of the arts, who provided DAC with a below-market lease rate and assisted with some of the capital costs of creating the studio to help make the ceramics classes sustainable and accessible to the public.
In 2008, after Greenfire Development purchased the building they continued the existing lease agreement with DAC. DAC is grateful to Walker Stone and Greenfire Development for providing a home for the DAC Clay Studio for over 10 years. In 2010 DAC relocated to a new 2,500 square foot ceramics facility located on the Plaza at Northgate Mall. This has given DAC the opportunity to provide an excellent and growing clay program to new and continuing students of all ages and abilities.
The current location is 1058 West Club Blvd, Durham, 27701, Space 836. Click Here for the Press Release We offer four sessions per year.
